DFCCI Statement of Faith

These core biblical truths define who we are, shape how we live, and guide everything we do as a church. Rooted in Scripture, our beliefs reflect our commitment to follow Jesus Christ, walk in the Spirit, and fulfill God’s purpose for His people.

We believe that the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God.

The Bible is the supreme authority in all matters of faith, doctrine, and conduct. It was written by human authors under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, without error, and entirely trustworthy as the revelation of God’s character, will, and plan for humanity.

Key Scriptures:

  • 2 Timothy 3:16-17: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God… that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
  • 2 Peter 1:20-21: “…no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation… but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”

We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things. Though one in essence, He exists as a Trinity—coequal and coeternal persons who share divine attributes, worthy of all honor and glory. God is holy, loving, just, merciful, and sovereign over all creation.

Key Scriptures:

  • Deuteronomy 6:4:

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!”

  • Matthew 3:16–17:

“And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.’”

  • Matthew 28:19:

“…baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…”

  • 2 Corinthians 3:17

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

  • 2 Corinthians 13:14:

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ… and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

  • 1 Peter 1:2

“who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.”

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man.

He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life. He died, was buried, rose bodily from the dead on the third day as the atoning sacrifice for the sins of humanity. He ascended into heaven, and will return to judge the living and the dead. He now intercedes for believers at the right hand of the Father.

Key Scriptures:

  • John 1:1,14: “In the beginning was the Word…and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…”
  • Philippians 2:5-11: Jesus, though God, humbled Himself and became obedient to death on a cross.
  • Romans 5:8: “But God demonstrates His own love…while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
  • 1 Corinthians 15:3-8:  “For I handed down to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.”

We believe that the Holy Spirit is fully God and is active in the world, convicting unbelievers and empowering believers.

The Holy Spirit indwells every believer. He regenerates hearts, leads believers into truth, produces spiritual fruit, imparts spiritual gifts, and empowers the Church for ministry. He is the believer’s Comforter, Counselor, and source of sanctification. The Holy Spirit works in the lives of believers, enabling them to live according to God’s will and to bear spiritual fruit.

Key Scriptures:

  • John 14:17: the Helper is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him; but you know Him because He remains with you and will be in you.
  • Acts 1:8: “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…”
  • Acts 2:1-3  When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a noise like a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And tongues that looked like fire appeared to them, distributing themselves, and a tongue rested on each one of them.
  • Galatians 5:22-23: The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, and more.

We believe that man is made in image and likeness of God. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.” This attitude separates man from God.

By Adam and Eve’s disobedience, sin entered the world, alienating humans from God and bringing spiritual death. Every person is born with a sinful nature, has a tendency to sin and is in need of reconciliation with God.

Key Scriptures:

  • Genesis 1:27-28
  • Genesis 3: The account of the Fall.
  • Isaiah 59:1, 2
  • Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
  • Romans 5:12: “…through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin…”

We believe that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone.

Salvation cannot be earned by human efforts or good works. It involves admission of sin, trust/faith in Christ’s sacrificial death and resurrection, and results in forgiveness, regeneration, justification, and the promise of eternal life.

 Key Scriptures:

  • Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith… not of works.”
  • John 3:16: “…that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
  • Titus 3:5-7:    He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we did in righteousness, but in accordance with His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He richly poured out upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

We believe that walking in holiness and righteousness is the work of the Holy Spirit that progressively transforms believers into the likeness of Christ.

We believe that although sinless perfection is not possible in this life, all believers are called to live holy lives in the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit. It begins after the person is justified by faith and continues as believers yield to the Holy Spirit, study God’s Word, and practice obedience. It is a lifelong process of spiritual growth.

Key Scriptures:

  • 2 Corinthians 3:18: “…being transformed into the same image from glory to glory…”
  • 1 Peter 1:15-16: “Be holy, for I am holy.”
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:23: “May the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely…”

We believe that the Church is the universal Body of Christ, composed of all  believers who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and is expressed in local congregations.

The Church exists to worship God, preach the Gospel, make disciples, exercise spiritual gifts, administer the ordinances (Baptism and the Communion), and practice fellowship and service. Christ is the head of the Church, and believers are called to unity, love, and mission.

Key Scriptures:

  • Ephesians 4:4-6: “There is one body and one Spirit…”
  • Hebrews 10:24-25: Encouragement to meet together and encourage one another.
  • 1 Corinthians 12:12-27: The Church as the body, each member having a role.
  • Ephesians 4:11-16
  • Acts 2:42-47

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ established two ordinances for the Church: Water Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

  • Water Baptism: An outward declaration of faith and identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
  • The Lord’s Supper (Communion): A remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice, symbolized by bread and the cup, and a proclamation of His death until He returns.

Key Scriptures:

  • Matthew 28:19: “Go therefore and make disciples… baptizing them…”
  • Romans 6:3-4: Baptism into Christ’s death and resurrection.
  • 1 Corinthians 11:23-26: Instructions for the Lord’s Supper.

We believe in the literal, visible, and personal return of Jesus Christ to establish His kingdom fully.

Jesus will return at the appointed time. His return brings the resurrection of the dead, the transformation of the living believers, and the fulfillment of all God’s promises. Believers eagerly await His coming.

Key Scriptures:

  • Acts 1:11: “This same Jesus…will so come in like manner…”
  • 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17: The Lord will descend, the dead in Christ will rise first.
  • Revelation 19:11-16: Christ’s triumphant return as King of kings and Lord of lords.

We believe that every person will stand before God to give an account and will be judged.

The righteous, having trusted in Christ, will be with the Lord forever, while those who reject God’s grace will face eternal separation from Him. This judgment will demonstrate the justice and holiness of God.

Key Scriptures:

  • 2 Corinthians 5:10: “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ…”
  • Revelation 20:11-15: The great white throne judgment.
  • Matthew 25:31-46: The separation of the righteous and the unrighteous.

We believe that God will create a new heavens and a new earth, the eternal dwelling place of the redeemed.

In this restored and perfect creation, God will dwell with His people, and there will be no more sin, suffering, death, or sorrow. This is the ultimate hope for believers, who will enjoy God’s presence forever.

Key Scriptures:

  • Revelation 21:1-4: A new heaven and a new earth, where God wipes away every tear.
  • 2 Peter 3:13: “…we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”
  • Isaiah 65:17: “God creating new heavens and a new earth, where former troubles are forgotten.”
